Take your current equine knowledge to the next level with our specialist courses

Humans have trained horses for centuries now, our training methods and our aims within training have evolved immensely over time. Our courses recognise the history surrounding equine training, but they also aim to break down some of the barriers set up in this sport. Some unfounded principles tend to be believed on a word-to-mouth basis, and often that does not improve the welfare or training efficiency.

Are you interested in being a student?

  • The level of difficulty of our courses is always stated clearly so that you can find the right fit,
  • We have taken steps to ensure that our courses are internationally valuable and recognizable - therefore wherever you are living or planning on working with horses you are assured that it will add value to your employability,
  • Multiple disciplines are considered within each course (jumping, barrel racing, harness racing...) so the learning can be applicable to you,
  • Behavioral issues are unfortunately still very common in most disciplines - although it is becoming more popular for horses to have a second or even third career in their lifetime, they can also remember past distress and discomfort. Our courses are designed to help you in dealing with those, by also broadening your knowledge outside of the traditional paths,
  • Equine cognition knowledge and understanding will spontaneously improve your experiences with horses.

Did You Know...

The story of Black Beauty, written by Anna Sewell, and published in 1877, is one of the first mentions of depressive states in horses... The allusion to this state or anything resembling learned helplessness has then been extremely rare in scientific literature and in our training guides up until very recently.

What is Equine Welfare?

'Welfare is a chronic positive mental and physical state resulting from the satisfaction of the animal’s behavioural and physiological needs and expectations. This state can vary according to the perception of the situation by the animal’ Hausberger et al, 2019.

Tutors working around the world

On all time-zones

After the purchase of a course, it is normal to sometimes find some principles more difficult to understand than others; or maybe you'd like to have more information on a specific topic...

We understand that having to wait 2 to 3 business days for help on any of those matters is far from ideal. This can even stop you from progressing for a while, especially when balancing your learning with other life commitments. This is why we have ensured that your email will be acknowledged immediately so that a tutor can start working with you on your request within a record amount of time. This includes weekends and international bank holidays.

Five Domains

A short brief

How did these principles come about, and why should they be considered within our training and management practices...

Why broaden our knowledge in equine cognition and behavior?

Inappropriate behaviors were found to be the main reason for the majority of horses that were sent to slaughterhouses, according to Odberg and Bouissou's study (1999).

‘Increased levels of competence in horse training could be useful for equine technicians, owners, breeders, veterinarians, and scientists, in order to safeguard horse welfare, and also to reduce the number of human injuries and economic loss for civil society and the public health system’ Baragli et al, 2015
